Doorbell

There was a storm.
The wind was so strong
It made our doorbell ring.
You told me to keep checking
And I told you,
‘It’s just the wind,
It’s always the wind.’
But you insisted,
‘Just in case,’ you said,
‘Because at some point
There’ll be someone
At the door
Who needs our help
And we won’t answer it.
What kind of people
Will we be then?’
You looked so helpless
All of a sudden.
I kissed you on the forehead
And answered the door
To nobody.
