In My Bed

I let you sleep in my bed,
I welcomed you every night.
Even nights when I slept alone
And you woke me later;
Smelling of poison,
Evening air trapped under your skin.
The scent on your clothes
And in your hair.
I was so glad
To have you in my bed.
Sometimes I want to cry with joy
At the thought of you lying beside me
In the middle of the night.
Just a memory now.
Just a memory of you there beside me.
