City Of Love

Friday night, amber light,
Restaurants hum with music and warmth.
In they stormed, with fire and guns
Flooding streets with fear
And blood.
Ordinary lives cut short
On an ordinary day.
A troubled handful with twisted motives,
No more extraordinary than the rest.
Why is terror your solution?
Oh, foolish ones, why don’t you see?
There are braver ways to die.

They came to the City of Love
And tried to take away its heart.
But this heart, it will not stop.
In fact, it only beats louder.
You can feel it in the ground
On cobbled streets, in ancient stone.
Liberty, equality, fraternity.
City of Love,
Sleep peacefully tonight.

For Paris, with love
