Go On Without Me

I sat in the garden alone.
There was no sun,
Just cloud and a breeze.
It wasn’t sitting outside weather.
Even though nobody followed me out there,
I felt them all get up and leave.
All of the birds were in other gardens.
The trees were in deep conversation
As they swayed,
But they didn’t include me.
I sat and watched the world
Go on without me.
Somebody did arrive to say hello:
The rain.
But by then,
It was time to go back inside.
