Warm With Me

I laid down next to you once
While you were sleeping.
You knew nothing of it, of course.
You were too lost
In a deep land of sleep.
I touched your cheek,
Kissed your forehead.
Pulled the covers up
Over your shoulders;
Like a mother
Checking on her sleeping child.
Caring for you gave me peace
And reaffirmed my love.
I wanted to keep you warm
With me.
I wanted your sleep to be deep
And trouble-free,
Like a child;
Safe and loved.
