Sleep, Find Me

Slumber, heavy and deep
Seek me in the night.
Drape yourself
Like silken cloth
Over my limp body.
Come and find me
In the darkness.
Take me over,
Declare me yours.
Hold me
While the world hides.
When morning comes
Release me
Into a new day.

    • I write a lot of my poems in bed before I sleep, so it’s a wonder I don’t write more poems like this one. I also like to think of sleep as a separate, living entity creeping through the night

      • I see, if I waited that close, I imagine sleep would creep into much of my poetry. Sleep as a creeping entity sounds both mysterious and tempting.
