Make Up

The beautiful face
You gaze at so dearly:
It’s a mask.
I paint it on.
Glitter and blush,
It’s all a façade.
Beautiful, perhaps,
But dishonest.
And you are dishonest, also,
For falling for such
Superficialities.
But to show you
What’s underneath,
I would have to reveal my heart
To you;
A privilege you must earn.
Beneath this veil
Lies fragility.
Behind this mask
I hide.
