“Someone I’m mad about is waiting in the night for me”

We’re all under the same sky.
The night cloaks us both as we sit
In different rooms, on opposite sides of the city.
He’s sitting by the window with a book,
But he cannot concentrate.
It’s late, but he cannot sleep.
Music plays, but he does not hear it.
He is thinking about me.
He is waiting for me.
But I will not come.
I have been waiting for this moment.
To know that I consume him.
I occupy his senses.
Just to know that someone is waiting for me
Under the light of a pale, city moon.
This moment is enough.
This moment keeps me warm.

We’re all under the same sky.
Apart, but together.
We sit alone in this tiny world.

(Quote in title taken from ‘Get Thee Behind Me, Satan’ by Irving Berlin)
